Indrakumar Selvaratnam, B.Sc., M.Sc., started his PhD programme in June 1994. His research interests include the development of a constraint-based, multi-agent framework for real-world applications, and the use of agents in distributed information systems for the water industry.
Shaikha Al-Jabir B.Sc., M.Sc., started her PhD programme in the Department of Electrical Engineering in 1994, and joined the AI Group in February 1996. She is working on the evaluation of knowledge representation schemas for representing terminological knowledge.
Andrew Salway, M.A., M.Sc., has been studying for a PhD since October 1995 as part of the Group's research into multimodal information processing systems and 'computational semiotics'. His particular interests relate to metaphoric phenomena and the computational models that seek to capture something of them. He is currently working in the area of dance and multimedia which provides a rich testbed of data for the theoretical ideas being explored.
Runli (Grace) Guo, B.Sc., started her PhD in October 1997. Her special interests relate to information extraction, proper names extraction, multilingual information processing and Chinese text segmentation.
