There are two courses on artificial intelligence:

(i) an introductory course for second-year undergraduates covering principles and practice of knowledge engineering and aspects of computational linguistics;
(ii) an advanced, final-year course on AI, covering expert systems, natural language processing, knowledge representation, knowledge acquisition and fuzzy logic.

A new Final Year option was introduced in 1995 entitled Neural Networks and Chaos. This course caters for students of both Mathematics and Computing and Information Technology. The goal of this course is to understand the terminology, to grasp the fundamental principles, and to appreciate the potential applications of two complementary developments in mathematical and computing sciences: neural networks that attempt to emulate the behaviour of the human nervous system and dynamical systems that exhibit non-linear dynamical behaviour.
