Categories for Describing Terminological Information

3.1 Introduction

The table below gives a list of categories, based on a number of different analyses of empirical project work (surveys, enquiries, evaluations, software design, database design, consulting services, feasibility studies) carried out by individual project partners in the past.

This list is a simplification and common denominator of those detailed category lists used in above mentioned activities and has been adapted for the purposes of this project, i.e. designed to describe the many dimensions and facets of terminological activities in Europe and their infrastructural basis.

If necessary, each category should be further differentiated in a purpose-oriented way by the work package coordinators in sub types for the purposes of individual work packages or tasks, provided that consistency across all parts of a particular work package must be guaranteed.

This common categorical denominator should guarantee compatability of results at least on this general level.
