MORPHIDAS: Morphometric Herbarium Image Data Analysis

Herbarium Leaf Finder

We have developed software that automatically analyses images of herbarium specimens and extracts information from the leaves it finds. This software requires Matlab and the Mathworks Image Processing Toolbox; it has been developed and tested using Matlab version 7.10.0 (R2010a). It also incorporates the "level set image segmentation" software by James Malcolm; this does not require any separate installation.

To download the software, click here. Unzip the file (maintaining the directory structure), read the README.TXT, update your Matlab path and run HLF.m. Please contact David Corney with any queries.

Herbarium Images

As part of this work, we photographed 1895 specimens of Tilia from the herbarium of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. We can make these images available for non-commercial research purposes after a suitable Image Supply Agreement has been signed. Please contact David Corney to discuss this in the first instance.
