Fan Zhang(Mr.)- mrh

I am 26 years old and current is a PHD student working on a joint project between Department of Computing and Department of Chemistry in University of Surrey. I am supervised by Prof. Paul J. Krause and Dr. David C. Povey.

Bioinformatics entered into the post-genomic era at the dawn of twenty-first century. The sequence information can now be decoded from DNA codon directly. It is also known that organic molecules' conformational information determine their biological function.

A breakthrough on sequence-structure relations can bring a fundamental insight into molecular-level mechanisms of diseases, and revolutionize pharmaceutical industry. Unfortunately, the current technique for predicting protein structures from first principles (i.e., starting only with sequence information) is of limited advantage because of its poor accuracy.

This research work endeavours to fulfill the following hypothesis:

"As the purity of dataset is refined and improved, the classification of dataset is better hence the prediction accuracy will improve disregard of which classifier is being used."

Therefore, further works are performed to investigate a two-staged mechanism which purifies the dataset in terms of both the physicochemical content and use of computational noise handling techniques.

This research is a collaborated project between Computing department and Chemistry department in University of Surrey.

My research interests:

My Research Project, and the PDB Parser Prototype version 0.0.03

Currently I am working on develop the PDB Version 1.00.
