Lectures will take place on Thursdays at 09:00 in TB1. Lab Classes are in AP Lab 2 on Tuesdays from 9:00 to 11:00.
There are a number of very useful books on Executable UML. Some use "Model Driven Architecture" (MDA) in the title. MDA broadens the range of models that can be used, but the basic goal is the same - work at the model level and then generate code. My two favourites on the list are the books by Mellor and Balcer, and by Raistrick et al. Details of recommended books can be found here.
iUMLite is available in AP Labs and does have some useful features for this course. It can be downloaded from the Kennedy Carter website. In order to install it on Vista, right click the donwloaded executable and select "Compatibility Mode" before you install it. Then "Run as Administrator". This should work.
iUMLite is, however, getting more troublesome to use. We have not been able to get any support in solving the network issues, for example. If you are using it in AP Labs, you can save a repository on the C Drive. This will be deleted overnight. But you can archive the repository on your home drive and then copy it back to the C drive next time. An alternative is to create a repository on a USB stick - this seems to work on most machines. But I do appreciate these work arounds are irritating for you all, so you may like to take a look at one of the following alternatives:
The coursework is assessed by one piece of coursework (40%) and an examination (60%). Do take the Lab Classes and coureswork seriously as there will be very little "bookwork" in the examination - it will primarily be a test of your modelling skills. The coursework will be due in on 3rd November 2008 and details can be found here.
Here are the past papers for the exam. Note, there will be three questions in the exam, and you must attempt all of them.
